Old Gruissan has retained all its authenticity and its medieval appearance makes it a typical representation of small Mediterranean towns. You can choose to stroll through the narrow streets looking for the old winegrowers' and fishermen's houses before climbing to the castle and the Barbarossa Tower, named after the pirate. Built in the 10th century, it served to protect the city from a possible invasion by sea before becoming a true fortress a century later.
Chalets de Gruissan beach is located between the entrance to the port and the entrance to the Grazel canal. In our opinion, it is the most original beach in Aude with its numerous houses on stilts which line it. This beach was chosen by Jean-Jacques Beinex for the setting of the film 37°2 le matin.
Many activities such as balneotherapy, the discovery of the salt marshes on Saint Martin Island, the auzils chapel, and all the nautical sports make Gruissan a special and privileged place
